The Best Film Gear from Studios Around the World
Ever wondered what gear others are using in their film studios?
We understand if you haven't seen our Gear Talk videos yet. No one is perfect. But honestly, you’re missing out if you have yet to catch up because our newest YouTube video series is our number one tip for filmmaking inspiration.
The series aims to showcase the favorite gear of different production studios. It’s our goal to inspire other videographers in the industry and give a behind-the-scenes look at other production houses. In each episode, we visit a different production studio and ask them to share their top five favorite pieces of gear for video shoots.
We're not just sharing the gear secrets of top production studios; we're spilling the tea on what they're using and why. Why do they prefer using Blackmagic cameras over Canon, for instance? Or why does the Aputure LS 600C PRO get chosen over the ARRI Orbiter?
By giving you an exclusive sneak peek into the world of video production, we hope to inspire you to up your game and explore new gear and techniques.
We have already released some very fun episodes with GRADIENT, Bustle / BDG, and Bronx Community College. Our newest episode is with Itch Media, an award-winning content agency based out of London. It’s important for us to highlight the film industry from various geographical angles, so Hollywood is up next! Something about eyes and peeling them. 👀

Inside ITCH’s kit room: favorite five deep-dive
Our newest YouTube video series, Gear Talk, has been running for several months. For our latest episode, we visited Itch Media in London. ITCH is a production studio that specializes in creating high-quality content for various platforms. As a content agency, they make videos for cool brands like Canon, Nespresso, Land Rover, Etihad, and many others. They focus on various content types like product shoots, talking heads, mini-documentaries, and social campaigns. To be able to do all of this, they need a lot of gear.
We asked Ben Yates, ITCH’s DOP, to share his top five favorite pieces of gear for video shoots. His picks included the Aputure Spotlight Mount, the Aputure LS 600D Pro, and the Camrade Travelmate XL. For him, it’s essential to have a big camera bag on wheels that fits all cameras and lenses needed for a shoot. Make sure you pad the case with a (custom) foam to protect the gear. Protect the gear. At. All. Costs.
Another great item that made his ‘favorite five’ is his custom tech pouch, which goes everywhere with him. It makes him feel like Inspector Gadget, and we can only support that. It contains all sorts of useful things you never think of when you pack for a regular shooting day, such as rubber bands for rain covers, a Leatherman for tripods, keys and screws in case you need to attach something to the camera, a lens cleaner, etc.
To find out what his FAVORITE piece of gear is and why these specific items made his top 5, watch the full Gear Talk episode here:
We had a blast hanging out with the team at ITCH Media and can't wait to revisit them. New episodes of Gear Talk go live every month, so stay tuned!
We hope this Gear Talk episode inspired you to try out new things. After all, who doesn't want to be the next Inspector Gadget with a custom tech pouch full of rubber bands and screws? So get ready to optimize your gear room and push the boundaries of video production.
